Therapy

Exploration | Awareness | Integration | Support

We know that reaching out for help can be confronting when you’re feeling challenged and we’re here to make it as easy as possible to take that first step to repair your relationship or work with a therapist as an individual.

At Nest Psychotherapy & Counselling we wholeheartedly believe that you already have the answers you need to create change in your life, so our role as therapists is to help you work through varying perspectives and guide you along the journey with tools and strategies to help.

While there is no set formula to therapy, there are some common areas that you can expect to navigate when you engage in counselling with us

  • Exploration. Exploring things that challenge you, your emotional connections, how you feel about the things you’re experiencing, and how your beliefs and attitudes came to be.
  • Awareness. Creating space for you to truly feel and experience your internal world. This may highlight things that have been previously pushed away or disregarded.
  • Integration. Working together on strategies to integrate the things you discover about yourself, your attitudes and feelings into your life.

It’s important to be gentle with yourself during any dark period and give yourself permission to explore and question your expectations and how they align to what you truly value. Remember that sometimes things fall apart so better things can fall into place.

Individuals

Our inner critics and a lack of connection and compassion for ourselves can leave us feeling lost, overwhelmed, empty and fearful.

The goal of individual therapy is to identify and address the behaviours and patterns that may be creating barriers to everyday life and no longer serving you.

In one-to-one sessions with your therapist, either in person or online you may explore together how and why certain behaviours or patterns have become problematic and look at the tools and personal resources you can tap into to create meaningful change in your life.

Individual therapy can help if you’re experiencing issues with:

  • Anxiety, depression or stress
  • Identity
  • Sexuality
  • Loss and grief
  • Trauma
  • Life transitions
  • Family or parenting

Cost:
$214.50 (incl.gst) per 50-minute session, in person or online – weekday session

The number of sessions required will depend on your own personal goals and where you would like to take your therapy. You are under no obligation to commit to a required number of sessions.

Please note that Psychotherapy & Counselling services for both individuals and relationships are currently not eligible for Medicare rebates. You may however want to check your eligibility to claim rebates for counselling services with your private health fund.

For individuals, Medicare do not offer rebates for work with a qualified psychotherapist or counsellor at this stage. If you are wanting to use a MHCP to access the rebate, please be mindful that there is likely to be a gap payment when you are using it with a psychologist or MHSW. This is due to the fact that the rebate paid to the therapist is usually much lower than there standard fee. We advise that you ensure you are asking the question when booking in with a therapist to use your MHCP that you ask what your ‘out of pocket’ expenses are going to be for each session.

We have found that sometimes, a therapy session with a counsellor or psychotherapist can be a similar or lower “than” the out-of-pocket expenses paid for a psychologist even with the Medicare rebate!

Because we are not working with you under a MHCP, it is important to note that we have no obligations to share any of the details of your session, or the fact that you are working with us to anyone else, including your GP and therefore the information is NOT stored on your health records.

Relationships

In any relationship, fear of conflict, turmoil and resistance are obstacles to reaching a healthy and productive place.

We all deserve love and healthy relationships, and it is possible for you to learn how.

At Nest Psychotherapy & Counselling we are passionate about working with people both individually and through their relationship to explore challenges and find ways to re-establish connection and healthy communication.

That’s why we work exclusively with relationship therapy. Tracy is Level 2 trained in the renowned Gottman Method Couples Therapy. This evidence-based method is proven to not only support and repair troubled relationships but strengthen happy ones.

Research shows that engaging in intensive relationship therapy then gradually tapering the frequency down is very effective to achieving long-term successful outcomes.

What to expect from Relationship Therapy

Relationship therapy is a unique process requiring commitment from both partners. Following an initial discovery and assessment stage (outlined below).

The Assessment Stage
An initial assessment conducted over two individual sessions together with analysis of the clinical reports, this provides an in-depth insight into your relationship and includes:

  • An online relationship check-up (approximately 90-minutes) to be completed by both partners prior to the next session
  • Online comprehensive Nest intake form.
  • Individual therapy session for each partner (50-minutes each)

Individual therapy Sessions can be conducted back-to-back to accommodate your individual schedules.

The Therapy Stage

While research supports this approach for best results, we are also mindful of what is achievable for you and your partner. Your therapist will discuss the best approach suited to both your needs and how sessions can be tailored to accommodate your schedules and commitments.

Please note that Psychotherapy & Counselling services for both individuals and relationships are currently not eligible for Medicare rebates. You may however want to check your eligibility to claim rebates for counselling services with your private health fund.
