FAQs

Where can I find resources to help me right now?

We hope you find the answers to any questions you may have about us.

Psychotherapy & Counselling Services

Sometimes you may feel that you are in need of urgent or immediate support. As a private practice, we have very limited ability to be available at short notice, but you are not alone. Please phone Lifeline on 13 11 14 for 24/7 phone crisis line or call 000 if this is an emergency.

We want to make the process as simple for you as possible. You can check availability and book a session online via online appt link or, if you prefer to talk to us, call the practice on 0484 223 042.

Clients wellbeing is always at the forefront of everything we do, you may need to cancel your session at the last moment due to an emergency or health reasons. We are humans too, and we get it! Therefore if you need to cancel for these reasons, we work with you and will not pass on the costs to the business. We do have a limit of 2 cancellation fee waivers for each client/s per 12 months.

As you can appreciate, we have many clients requiring our services and will often have a waitlist of clients, for us to offer your cancelled session to another person in need, we require 48 business hours to have a chance to offer the session to another. For standard cancellations we kindly request at least 48 hrs notice to cxl or reschedule to avoid any fees. If you cancel your session with 24 to 48 hours notice a 50% cxl fee is incurred

If you cxl within 24 hours from your session the full session fee is payable.

This can be led by you in consultation with your therapist as it varies for people. Some people work with us long term and some come to work through very specific challenges for a shorter period. We have no minimum contract although we do express to people that the process is most effective in an environment where trust and rapport have been established.

Therefore anything less than 6 sessions for individuals is unlikely to facilitate any positive realisations or deep change and 10 sessions for relationship therapy following the assessment phaseWe also recommend booking your sessions ahead if you find a time that works for you.

For people seeking relationship therapy – a MHCP is unable to be used regardless of the type of practitioner you use as they are only available for individual work. For individuals, Medicare do not offer rebates for work with a qualified psychotherapist or counsellor at this stage. If you are wanting to use a MHCP to access the rebate, please be mindful that there is likely to be a gap payment when you are using it with a psychologist or MHSW. This is due to the fact that the rebate paid to the therapist is usually much lower than there standard fee. We advise that you ensure you are asking the question when booking in with a therapist to use your MHCP that you ask what your ‘out of pocket’ expenses are going to be for each session.

We have found that sometimes, a therapy session with a counsellor or psychotherapist can be a similar or lower “than” the out-of-pocket expenses paid for a psychologist even with the Medicare rebate!

Because we are not working with you under a MHCP, it is important to note that we have no obligations to share any of the details of your session, or the fact that you are working with us to anyone else, including your GP and therefore the information is NOT stored on your health records.

No, you do not need a referral from a GP, you can book an appointment when you feel ready to start.

Counselling is focused on presenting challenges and early intervention and providing support on current life challenges.

Psychology A psychologist studies the science of human behaviour. There a lots of different psychologist specialties. Some are clinical or registered psychologists who practice talk therapy with clients and they can provide diagnosis if required.

Psychotherapy is the process of working with human emotions and behaviors, using psychological methods to bring awareness to the reasons for a person’s beliefs, feelings and behaviors to bring about awareness and sustained change. Whichever practitioner you work with, it is important to ask for details of their accreditation status. This ensure the practitioner is working under a strict code of ethics and regulations.

We recognise that at the basis of any successful therapeutic alliance is relationship. We often explain to clients that if you don’t feel the ‘fit’ is right for you, for whatever reason, talk to us and we can help you find the right therapist, whether that is an internal or external option.

We also offer 10 minute telephone consultations (which you can book directly on line here) with a therapist before you book to see if they feel right for you.

The Relationship Retreat

Anyone who is romantically connected and wishes to either repair or enhance their current relationship. We are affirming in our practices and recognise that there is no one right way for people to commit to each other and all our welcome. Some examples of the reasons people may approach us to work with Tracy this way are:

  • Betrayal or Infidelity
  • High conflict
  • Communication issues
  • Intimacy or sexual challenges or imbalances
  • Sexuality
  • Identity
  • Parenting difficulties
  • Loss of friendship system
  • Differing value systems

Whilst there are times that moving forward with relationship therapy may not be the best option for people, this will be discussed with you after assessment with Tracy and she will offer you clarification on the best next steps.

Both of our therapists who offer couples counselling are highly experienced and trained (to Level 2) in the evidence based Gottman Method. This approach was originally designed to be used in what the Gottman Institute call ‘Marathon Sessions’ Tracy has designed TRR in line with this approach.

It offers an immersive and uninterrupted approach where you can fully focus on arguably the most important relationship in your life. People have reported after completing this work with Tracy that it has been ‘life changing’ and that they ‘feel more connected than ever before’

TRR is often the best fit for people who have busy lives and are unable to take time away from work or other commitments every week for many months as we work together for 2 consecutive days.

Please complete these from the mindset of how you felt when you first reached out for therapy.
